Ensuring the Security of Computer Systems and Networks is a top priority in the defense against system failure and illegitimate access to sensitive information.

Viruses and Malware are the most prevalent threats originating from the Internet and there are many ways to protect against these types of infections.

  • Always have an Antivirus Program installed and be sure that it is kept up to date. (For more detailed information on viruses and how to combat them, please click "Here".)

  • Implement some type of "Anti-Malware/(Spyware)". There current estimate is approximately 115,000 different variations of "Spyware" loose on the Internet, but there is no common database in place to identify and catalogue ALL Spyware so some infections may require the use of more than one Anti-Spyware utility to ensure your system is clean. (For more detailed information on Spyware and how to protect against infection, please click "Here".)

 Physical Security

Always protect your computer system from local unauthorized access.

  • Storing the computer in a secure location is often overlooked by many businesses.  The best Firewall and Antivirus programs in the world will not protect your data if your computer system is physically unprotected.

 Operating System Security

Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Operating Systems are much more secure than the previous Microsoft operating systems released in the past. Although XP and Vista are much more secure than the older operating systems, they still require periodic updates to ensure that any newly discovered security holes in the program code of the operating system are properly patched.

Set your system to automatically check for security updates.  Microsoft releases updates on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. You can also manually download and install Microsoft updates by going to the Microsoft Update site at the link below.
